Method

Same five parts. Every time.

Just the record. What happened, the data, where it came from, what each side said. No narrative, no spin, no opinion.

  1. 01

    What happened

One or two sentences. Confirmed facts only. Who, what, when, where.

  2. 02

    The numbers

Key figures with the source beside each one. If there are none: No hard numbers yet.

  3. 03

    What each side said

Every real position, named, in roughly equal space. The word count sits on the box so you can check.

  4. 04

    What is still missing

What is unconfirmed, still developing, or absent from the record.

  5. 05

    Sources

At least two independent outlets, plus the primary document when one was opened. Primary is marked in yellow.

House rules

  1. 01

    A fact, or a name

If a sentence is not a checkable fact, it carries the person who said it.

  2. 02

    Plain verbs

Said, voted, filed, announced, published. Not slammed, blasted, or shocking.

  3. 03

    Their own name

A group is called what it calls itself, or by the neutral official term.

  4. 04

    No forecast

No prediction and no what this means. That part is yours.

  5. 05

    Across the spectrum

For politics, at least one outlet commonly read as left leaning and one commonly read as right leaning, or a wire service plus a primary source.

  6. 06

    Disagreement stays

If sources disagree on a fact, both versions stay on the page.

  7. 07

    Nothing invented

No made up number, quote, or source. If it cannot be verified, it does not run.

  8. 08

    No dashes

No em dashes and no en dashes. Commas, periods, colons, or parentheses.

We are

  • Plain verbs
  • Named sources
  • Numbers with units
  • Short sentences

We are not

  • Slammed
  • Skyrocketed
  • Shocking
  • Breaking

Yellow means the line came from the source, or it is a primary document that was opened. It is not a party color. Corrections stay public. The writing rules live in skills/stm/SKILL.md.
