The Bureau said the rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent and said payroll gains were concentrated in health care and transport. It said the August figure was revised down by 11,000 jobs.

Sample Employers Council

The Employers Council said the participation rate of 62.3 percent is the figure it tracks and said hiring plans in its member survey were flat for a third month.

Sample Labor Federation

The Labor Federation said the downward revision to August matters more than the September gain and said it wants the Bureau to publish revision ranges with each release.
